Google Pixel 6 Overview: Body & Design

Unlike the Pixel 5, the 2021 Google Pixel has a mirror-like back and an all-glass body with an aluminium frame support. The camera module is now in a wide strip that extends across the phone’s back in what some like to call a visor!

While the new look of the main camera module on the Pixel 6 is both unique and practical as it prevents the phone from moving when placed on its back, there’s only one downside to this design choice: dust! The visor-like camera module makes a 90-degree angle with the phone’s back and that angle collects dust, because of the narrow space, it is tough to clean.

In terms of protection, you can buy a special screen protector that is specifically designed for this model and it comes with a dedicated glass protector for the camera module. This way, you can enjoy the look of the phone without having to cover it with a case and without worrying about its safety. Of course, you can put the Pixel 6 in a protective case if you want to, but the good this is that you don’t have to whereas with other phones, you have no choice.

The front of the Pixel 6 is quite straightforward and attractive as well. No annoying notch, so you can enjoy your gaming time and watch videos in landscape mode uninterrupted. There are super-slim bezels surrounding the display, but not enough to take away from the phone’s great design or how good the screen looks.

The Pixel of 2021 has a glass back which is a first for the Google Pixel line. With that change in material, you get a premium-looking phone as well as fast wireless charging at 21W, also for the first time in a Pixel phone.

The screen is a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel with 90Hz refresh rate which means smoother scrolling experience with the screen and smoother animations of the phone’s general display responses. The display quality is 1080 x 2400 pixels and the panel is protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Pixel 6 Camera Review

It’s no secret that Google Pixel phones’ weak point has always been its cameras. However, the Pixel 6 comes with a 50MP main camera wide lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens making your wide-angle photo look better than it ever was with Pixel phones.

The absence of a telephoto lens does not promise much in terms of optical zoom capabilities. So, if great zoom options are important for your requirements, you might want to opt for a Pixel 6 Pro which does have that lens.

On the other hand, the Pixel 6 has the proper software twists that enhance the photos using computational photography making the photos leaps and bounds better. When put up against an iPhone 13 camera, the Pixel 6 definitely has better ground!

The Pixel 6’s 50MP camera performs impressively in indoors and low-light settings as well as outdoors and sunny well-lit settings.

Additionally, the Pixel 6’s camera app is much more than just capturing photos and recording videos. The camera app contains innovative photo editing features like the Magic Eraser and Motion Mode.

Pixel 6 Processor and Battery

Google is presenting a new chip in the Pixel 6 which is the Google Tensor. With this chip, Google powers the improved photo processing and photo editing abilities of its new phone. The Tensor chip puts Google Pixel 6 on the same level as 2021 flagships in terms of processing speed, power, and graphics.

If you need a familiar chip to compare or measure the performance that the Tensor chip provides, it’s easy to say that it is quite similar to the Snapdragon 888 chip.

For the battery capacity, the Pixel 6 has a 4614 mAh battery which is perfect for the phone’s size and perfect for powering the 5G requirements.

Conclusion: Worth it!

The pixel 6 is definitely an impressive flagship that deserves its high price tag. However, if the price is too expensive for your budget, you can wait to get the refurbished Google Pixel which is definitely going to be much cheaper. Read more about refurbished smartphones and where to get them.

If money is not an issue, but you’d like to have the full mobile photography experience, add a few hundred pounds and get the Pixel 6 Pro.

Our bottom line is that the Pixel 6 is a great 2021 phone and it will still be a great phone for years to come!
